Decoding HTML Entity correctly
Decode named and numeric HTML character references into plain text, including the full HTML named-reference set and multi-code-point references.
The result is displayed in a text editor. A decoded tag is never inserted into the page as HTML and no scripts or images are loaded from your input.
Decode one entity layer
< becomes < after one run. Named references are case-sensitive; numeric references can be decimal or hexadecimal. Unknown references remain unchanged.

Semicolons and HTML rules
Require semicolons is enabled initially. Disable it to accept legacy references in HTML text. HTML numeric reference rules apply: invalid code points can become U+FFFD and some legacy numeric values are remapped.
Read text without rendering HTML
The output is plain text, even if it contains tags, event handlers or scripts. Decoding is not sanitization: if you later insert the output into an HTML document, apply the protections required by that application.
Up to 5 MiB of input, 20 MiB of output, and 10 seconds per run. Text files must use UTF-8. Base64 encoding also accepts binary files. Documents stay on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Are all named HTML entities supported?
Yes, including references that decode to more than one Unicode code point.
What happens to an unknown entity?
It stays as written. This tool does not guess an intended name.
Can I decode entities without semicolons?
Disable Require semicolons for HTML text compatibility. Attribute parsing has different rules and is outside this mode.
Why does produce a replacement character?
HTML specifies a replacement for invalid numeric references. This is expected HTML decoding behavior.
Will decoded tags execute?
No. They are shown only as text in the result editor.
