How to use

  1. Paste lines or open a UTF-8 text file.
  2. Choose a sort mode and any cleanup options.
  3. Copy or download the sorted list.

Choosing the right line order

Reorder one record per line for lists, fixtures, and configuration work. Sorting keeps equal values in their original relative order.

Choose natural order, locale-aware text order, exact decimal value, or length in Unicode code points.

Natural order for numbered names

Natural order treats digit runs as numbers, so item2 precedes item10. Text order compares with the page language’s Intl.Collator. Browser collation data can affect language-specific ordering.

Natural sorting
Input
item10
item2
item1
Result
item1
item2
item10

Numbered names are sorted as item1, item2, then item10.

Numeric sorting without rounding

Numeric mode accepts signed decimals and scientific notation with exponents from −1,000,000 to 1,000,000. It compares decimal representations without converting to floating-point numbers, preserving big integers and written forms such as 19.9900. Blank or nonnumeric lines produce an error unless blank lines are removed.

Cleanup and line endings

Trimming changes each output line; removing blank lines is optional. Length counts Unicode code points, not grapheme clusters. Line tools use the first encountered LF, CRLF, or CR separator, preserve a final newline, and keep a leading UTF-8 BOM at the start.

Processing limits

Up to 5 MiB of text, 100,000 logical lines, 20 MiB of output, and 10 seconds for text transformations. Regex tests allow 1 MiB of input, 4,096 pattern code units, 500 reported matches, and 2 seconds. Files must use UTF-8. All processing stays on your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do natural and text order differ?

Natural order recognizes digit runs; text order compares the written characters without numeric collation.

Are numeric values rounded?

No. Exact decimal comparison keeps the original numeric text unchanged unless trimming is enabled.

Can I reverse the order?

Yes. Select Descending; equal sort keys still keep their source order.

Are duplicate lines removed?

No. Use Remove Duplicate Lines for that separate task.

Does length count visible characters?

It counts Unicode code points. A combined accent or multi-part emoji can contain several code points.
