How to use

  1. Paste the encoded value, open a file, or try the sample.
  2. Choose the format. The result updates as you type.
  3. Copy the result or download the converted data.

Decoding URL correctly

Turn percent-encoded UTF-8 back into readable text. Choose the mode used by the encoder so reserved punctuation and plus signs are handled correctly.

Malformed percent sequences and invalid UTF-8 produce an error instead of silently inserting replacement characters. Decoding happens once per run.

Decode percent sequences once

Percent bytes are decoded as strict UTF-8. %252F becomes %2F after one run, not /. Plain text outside escape sequences is retained.

A URL conversion
Input
hello%20world%20%2B%20caf%C3%A9%2F%3F
Result
hello world + café/?

The default settings convert this input in one pass.

Choose how separators behave

Component mode decodes reserved punctuation. Full URI mode preserves escaped URI delimiters as decodeURI does. Form value mode turns + into a space before percent decoding; component mode keeps a literal +.

Broken input remains an error

A trailing %, incomplete hexadecimal pair, or invalid UTF-8 is rejected. Input and the previous result remain visible, but stale output cannot be exported. The tool never opens or fetches the decoded address.

Processing limits

Up to 5 MiB of input, 20 MiB of output, and 10 seconds per run. Text files must use UTF-8. Base64 encoding also accepts binary files. Documents stay on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Why did + stay a plus sign?

Component mode preserves +. Choose Form value if + represents a space.

Why does Full URI leave %2F unchanged?

decodeURI preserves escaped URI delimiters. Use Component when you want every valid percent sequence decoded.

Why does %E9 fail?

It is not a complete UTF-8 sequence. For é, the UTF-8 encoding is %C3%A9.

Does the decoder run repeatedly?

No. Each conversion decodes one layer. Use as input is an explicit way to process another layer.

Will the decoded URL be opened?

No. The output remains plain text on this page.
