Text Counter
Count words, Unicode characters, lines and UTF-8 bytes, with word-frequency statistics.
Processing runs in your browser. Your input is not sent to DevToolsy.
How it works
Paste or open UTF-8 text for live counts. The report separates grapheme clusters, Unicode code points and UTF-16 units, lists the top 20 lowercase word frequencies, and estimates reading time using your selected speed.

Options and data fidelity
Words and sentences use Intl.Segmenter for the page language. Blank lines separate paragraphs; a trailing newline adds a logical line. Reading time is an estimate in seconds.
Working with the result
Different tools may count code units, graphemes or words differently. Intl segmentation and language affect word boundaries; the reading estimate is not a measurement of an individual reader.
Yes. Results have copy and download actions. Changing inputs or generation settings invalidates the previous result.
Text input up to 1 MiB; User-Agent up to 16 KiB. Shorter limits apply to address and identifier fields. Up to 1,000 ULIDs, 10,000 placeholder words or 256 child subnets. Tasks time out after 10 seconds.
Frequently asked questions
Why do character counts differ from string.length?
Paste or open UTF-8 text for live counts. The report separates grapheme clusters, Unicode code points and UTF-16 units, lists the top 20 lowercase word frequencies, and estimates reading time using your selected speed.
How are words, paragraphs and reading time counted?
Words and sentences use Intl.Segmenter for the page language. Blank lines separate paragraphs; a trailing newline adds a logical line. Reading time is an estimate in seconds.
Will every editor show the same counts?
Different tools may count code units, graphemes or words differently. Intl segmentation and language affect word boundaries; the reading estimate is not a measurement of an individual reader.
Is my input uploaded?

Can I copy or download the result?
